There are two kinds of people who walk through our door with vinyl records. The first is the buyer — someone building a collection, hunting for a specific pressing, or just curious to see what's on the shelves. The second is the seller — someone sitting on a collection they've inherited, outgrown, or simply decided it's time to let go of. Room Swap Consignments serves both, and we love both.
If you have vinyl records to sell in the Holly Hill area — or anywhere in the SC Lowcountry — this guide is for you. We'll walk you through what we buy, how the process works, and what you can expect when you bring a collection to us. We'll also cover what vinyl buyers will find in our showroom.
We Buy Vinyl Records — Collections Welcome
Let's start with the most important thing: we buy vinyl records, and we especially want to hear from people with larger collections.
If you've inherited a collection from a parent or grandparent, if you're clearing out an estate, if you're downsizing after a move, or if you've simply accumulated more records over the years than you know what to do with — please reach out. Collections are exactly what we're looking for. You don't need to sort them, price them, or research individual values before you come in. Bring them as-is and let us take a look.
We buy records from across the South Carolina Lowcountry, including Holly Hill, Orangeburg, Summerville, Moncks Corner, St. George, Walterboro, and surrounding communities. If you're further out and have a substantial collection, give us a call at 843-900-1412 to discuss options.
What Types of Vinyl Records We Buy
We're interested in a wide range of vinyl, not just pristine audiophile pressings. Here's what we're actively looking for:
LPs (12-inch Albums)
Full-length albums are our bread and butter. Classic rock, soul, R&B, jazz, blues, country, folk, gospel, classical, and pop from the 1950s through the 1990s are all in demand. Well-known artists and obscure regional pressings alike can have real value — especially if the records are clean and the sleeves are intact.
45s (7-inch Singles)
Collections of 45s are often overlooked, but they can be goldmines. Soul 45s, country singles, early rock and roll, and regional pressings from small labels are particularly sought after. If you have a box or binder full of 45s gathering dust, bring them in.
12-inch Singles and Dance Records
Disco, funk, early hip-hop, and house music 12-inch singles have become highly collectible. If you have records from the late 1970s through the 1990s in these genres, they're absolutely worth having appraised.
Whole Estate and Household Collections
We are especially well-positioned to handle estate situations where records are just one part of a larger household to be cleared. We regularly buy furniture, home goods, and collectibles alongside vinyl records — meaning we can often take an entire estate's music collection in a single visit rather than requiring you to find separate buyers for everything.
Genres We Buy
- Classic rock and rock & roll (Elvis, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac, etc.)
- Soul, R&B, and Motown
- Jazz (especially Blue Note, Prestige, Impulse!, Verve, and Columbia pressings)
- Blues (Chicago blues, Delta blues, electric blues)
- Country and bluegrass (classic and vintage)
- Gospel and Southern gospel
- Folk and Americana
- Disco, funk, and soul
- Classical (especially early stereo pressings)
- Pop from the 1960s–80s
- Soundtracks and cast recordings
What Makes a Vinyl Collection More Valuable
Not all records are equally valuable, and we want to be upfront about that. Here are the factors that affect what we're able to offer for a collection:
Condition of the Vinyl
The playing surface matters most. Records with deep scratches, chips, or warping have limited value. Records that are clean, free of visible scratches, and play without significant noise are always worth more. You don't need to clean them before you bring them — we can assess condition on the spot — but records that have been properly stored and handled will fetch more than neglected ones.
Condition of the Sleeves and Jackets
Original sleeves and album artwork add value. Records in their original inner sleeves with intact outer jackets in good condition are worth significantly more than records with torn, water-damaged, or missing covers. If records have been stored loosely in boxes without their original packaging, the value decreases.
Pressing and Label
Original first pressings of classic albums — especially on original label imprints — are worth more than later reissues. A 1960s Blue Note jazz pressing is more valuable than a 1970s reissue of the same album. We're knowledgeable about pressing identification and will take this into account when evaluating a collection.
Rarity and Demand
Supply and demand drives the used record market just like any other. Common titles from artists whose records were pressed in the millions (think mid-career Elton John or mainstream country albums) tend to have modest value unless they're in exceptional condition. Rarer pressings, regional releases, promo copies, and records with strong collector demand command significantly more.
Collection Size and Diversity
We can often offer more for a large, varied collection than for individual records. A collection of 200–500 records with diverse genres and artists is much easier for us to work with than a collection of 30 very mainstream titles. Bigger is often better when it comes to working with us.
How the Selling Process Works
Selling your vinyl records to Room Swap is straightforward. Here's what to expect:
- Contact us first. If you have a large collection — especially anything over 50 records — give us a call at 843-900-1412 or send us a message before you come in. This lets us make sure we have time to properly evaluate what you're bringing. For smaller lots, you're welcome to walk in during business hours.
- Bring them in. Box them up and bring them to our showroom at 8531 Old State Road, Holly Hill, SC 29059. There's no need to organize or alphabetize them beforehand — we'll go through them ourselves.
- We evaluate on the spot. Our team will go through the collection, assess condition, identify notable pressings, and come up with an offer for the lot (or individual items, depending on the situation). We aim to make this process quick and respectful of your time.
- We make you an offer. We'll give you a fair cash offer based on what we see. We're transparent about our process and happy to explain how we arrived at a number.
- You get paid the same day. If you accept the offer, you leave with payment in hand. No waiting, no consignment periods, no chasing anyone down.
Why Bring Your Collection to Room Swap Instead of Selling Online?
Selling records online — through Discogs, eBay, or Facebook Marketplace — is a legitimate option, but it comes with real costs in time, effort, and aggravation that many people underestimate:
- Research takes time. To price records fairly on Discogs, you need to research each individual title, identify the specific pressing, assess condition using standardized grading, and write an accurate listing. For a collection of 300 records, this can take weeks of part-time work.
- Shipping is a hassle. Vinyl records are heavy and fragile. Packing them properly, calculating shipping, printing labels, and hauling boxes to the post office is significant labor. Damaged records in transit lead to disputes and returns.
- Not everything sells. The records you think are worth the most aren't always the ones buyers want. You may spend months selling 200 of your 300 records while the remaining 100 sit unsold.
- We take it all. When you sell to us, the entire collection goes. You don't end up with a box of unsellable leftovers.
For many people — especially those dealing with an estate or simply wanting a quick, clean solution — selling a collection directly to a buyer like Room Swap is worth far more than the marginal extra money they might net selling piece by piece online.
Vinyl Records for Sale at Room Swap
On the buying side, we keep a rotating stock of vinyl records in our 4,000 sq ft Holly Hill showroom. Our inventory comes directly from the collections we acquire, meaning you'll find real used records — not store-bought filler — at prices well below what you'd pay at a specialty record shop.
Because our inventory changes constantly as we bring in new collections, there's no permanent catalog of what's in stock. The best way to see what we have is to stop by. If you're looking for something specific, call ahead at 843-900-1412 and we'll let you know if we have it or expect to get it in soon.
Vinyl at Room Swap sits alongside our furniture, home decor, antiques, and collectibles — making us a great one-stop shop if you're hunting for records and looking to furnish or decorate your space. As the vinyl revival has shown, records are as much a decor item as they are a music format.
Estate Collections: A Note for Families
If you're handling the estate of a parent, grandparent, or loved one who collected records, we want to make the process as easy as possible for you. We understand that estate clearouts involve a lot of moving parts — decisions to make, logistics to manage, and often a significant emotional dimension as well.
Room Swap regularly works with families going through estates. We buy records alongside furniture, artwork, and other household contents, which can dramatically simplify the process of clearing a home. If the estate also involves a larger-scale clearout or sale, visit our estate services page to learn more about what we offer.
A single phone call to 843-900-1412 is often all it takes to get the process started.
The Bottom Line
Whether you're sitting on a box of inherited records, a carefully assembled collection you've decided to downsize, or a garage full of an estate's worth of vinyl — Room Swap Consignments wants to hear from you. We buy records, we sell records, and we do both with knowledge and respect for the music.
Come see us at 8531 Old State Road, Holly Hill, SC 29059, open Tuesday through Saturday from 12 to 5 PM. Or call us at 843-900-1412 to talk through what you have before making the trip.
